The above graphs all show different aspects to stress on teenagers. Each one has a different concept and will each teach us a different lesson about this topic. One by one, I will go through all the charts and explain what each one is taking about and why it is important to my social issue, which is stress on teenagers.
The first graph answers the question of how serious of an issue stress is from a teenagers point of view. They surveyed teenagers from the age of 13 to 17 that question and the majority answered "very serious". This shows that teenagers going through stress feel as if it can effect them not only mentally, but physically as well. They fear that because of all the stress they are undergoing because of school and activities, their bodies will potentially pay the price. We all know that teenagers are stressed, but when they admit that they fear this stress will become a very serious health issue, it takes it to the next level. Teenagers need to understand that if this stress continues, it most likely will effect them negatively. We have to find a way to reduce this stress and chart number 1 shows us exactly why we need to.
In the second chart, it shows how teens that are effected by stressed have shown signs of depression. From the young age of 12 all the way to 17, teens are most likely to become depressed because of stress at the age of 16 to 17. I am currently 16 and this is quite frightening to find out. I am defiantly stressed out and I feel as if it could easily lead to depression. I fear that if this were to be the case with me, I would not be able to handle it. I can barley take all the stress in my life and to add depression onto it would be awful. This chart really makes me think just how bad stress can be on teenagers. Depression is a very serious thing and it leads to many devastating events. We shouldn't be letting stress lead to this, and I think this chart shows us that.
The third graph shows all the reasons teenagers claim to be stressed about. Of course there are more things, but schoolwork and parents seem to be the number 1 stress causers. Personally, schoolwork is so stressful to me and I think I agree with most of the teenagers that answered in this graph. School is something that you cant mess up because it dictates your whole future. If you make one mistake with it, it can mess every single thing up. Parents are a really big stress causer in any teen life. They put pressure on you to be perfect and they basically give you all the responsibilities you need to be able to handle. Other than that, relationships, sports, and siblings seem to be pretty big stress causer. I think that by reading this graph we can understand the things that make us feel stressed and it can help us potentially release some of the stress by specifically identifying it.
The forth and final graph is all about stress over college. Teenagers everywhere suffer stress from college. The preparation and the fear of going is maily what stresses teens out. It looks like from the graph above that juniors and sohomores are the most stressed out over college. College is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make in your life and you cant afford to mess it up. The pressure and the stress is survir and teens honestly should get a little stressed out about it. It's the first time you live on your own and have to make or your own life and care for yourself. We as teenagers have to face the truth and accept the fact that college will lead to a lot of stress in our lives. I personally feel like college is already stressing me out and it is only going to get worst in the future. I think this chart shows us that college is stressful and it effects many other people.
